Sound Transit board members voted Tuesday morning to join King County Metro’s lawsuit against the Trump administration, which has threatened to suspend federal grants to agencies unless they slash local diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
“Nobody wants this,” said Sound Transit Chair Dave Somers, who is Snohomish County executive. Sound Transit says $82 million of its federal funds are at risk this year under Trump’s DEI executive order. King County has been awarded but not yet spent $446 million in Federal Transit Administration grants since 2017, and considers that money at risk, according to the lawsuit.
