Instead of treading water for months during a national CEO search, the Sound Transit board Thursday took the lowest-drama path possible by hiring Goran Sparrman, a seasoned manager who previously led the Bellevue and Seattle transportation departments and spent the last five years as a vice president here for the big HNTB engineering firm.

Sparrman, a 68-year-old Eastside resident, was unanimously approved Thursday for one year as interim CEO beginning Saturday, after Julie Timm’s departure this month.
