Sound Transit CEO Julie Timm is leaving after just 16 months, yet the agency will pay her $375,000 salary for another year, plus benefits, after she departs Jan. 12.

Members of the agency’s governing board approved the package Friday afternoon, amid tributes to Timm’s hard work and attention to transit riders and stations. Timm will do consulting work for the agency in the coming year.

It was not made immediately clear why Timm’s exit after a brief tenure — a departure she says is her own choice — prompted the payout.
